We're Keeping Summer Sustainable

Posted on

Sustainable Picnic Essentials from Postcards Home

All these May Bank Holiday weekends are getting us in the mood for Summer fun, and we're dreaming of all-day barbecues in the garden, picnics in the park and al fresco drinks as the sun goes down.

This year we're turning our backs on disposable Summer supplies and getting drastic about plastic - no more panic-bought plastic cups, useless plastic cutlery and disposable paper napkins for us. We're investing in some reusable pieces to see us through the season in sustainable style.

Wooden Forks from &Keep

We've stocked up on wooden straws and cutlery from &Keep so we can slurp and munch guilt-free, and we've popped a few spares in a cotton bag in our handbag to avoid panic purchases before an impromptu picnic.

Traditional textile napkins, placemats and table cloths used to be firm favourites in the kitchen cupboard, but haven't been front-of-mind for a while now as we've got a bit more spontaneous with our dining habits (and maybe a bit less organised, or is that just us?). But we're bringing them back to show that real tableware adds a sense of occasion to even ad hoc mealtimes.

Shop our colourful collection of tableware and set yourselves up for a Summer of al fresco fun.

Cherry Blossom Napkins and Placemats

Cherry Blossom Napkins and Placemats

Inspired by the petal-covered parks of Japan in blossom season, these pretty pink placemats and napkins are the perfect picnic accompaniment. Serve with a side of edible flowers in fizz and fondant fancies.

Langur Napkins and Placemats

Dine with the monkeys and let trouble commence. Lay down our Shaken Leaves Tablecloth and serve up tropical fruit salads and banana bread with our Langur Napkins.

If you're packing up a feast and heading to the water then these are the napkins to pop in your picnic basket. Serve with smoked salmon sandwiches, cream cakes and chilled white wine.

Evil Eye Tree Napkins and Placemats

Evil Eye Tree Napkins and Placemats

Inspired by the blue amulets that hang from the Evil Eye Trees of the historical region of Cappadocia in Turkey, these napkins will keep things calm and sun-soaked into the Summer evenings. Pop some kebabs on the barbecue and relax.
