Mothering Sunday in the UK is almost here (Sunday 6th March 2016) - a chance for us all to give three cheers to our mighty Mammas and attempt to spoil them as much as they'll let us.
Whether you're treating your Mum, or the Mother of your child, why not start the day off with a bang and make breakfast extra special?
Here are our top tips to creating the ultimate Mother's Day breakfast in bed:
Make things pretty and relaxing
We're loving the pastel shades of the Regatta Collection from design team Safomasi, available with placemats and napkins to complete the look.
Next, bring Springtime into the room with a bunch of flowers on the bedside table. It can't be a coincidence that the prettiest inexpensive flowers come forth at this time of the year in abundance, can it? Grab a bunch of daffodils a few days in advance so they are peeking through, and pop them in a pretty little jug or vase beside the bed.
The perfect breakfast ensemble
Let's make this look extra special. Pick a wooden tray to serve your meal and spread with a pretty placemat and napkin for a lovely finishing touch. Adding a few of your fresh flowers in a little vase will make things look really cheerful.
Don't forget to pop your card on the tray to open with a cup of freshly made coffee or a pot of tea. And the Sunday newspapers or her favourite magazines are a must to encourage relaxation.
Choose personalised recipes
Does your Mum love toast dripping with jam? Croissants? A good old bacon sarnie? Go for her favourite and take it to a whole new level. Why not treat her to some really lovely condiments from Fortnum and Mason to spread on her toast? Or opt for the fanciest cereal you can find with fresh fruit? Bubbles make everything better so add a glass of Prosecco or Bucks Fizz for a touch of celebration.
Make a card
I'm a card obsessive. There I said it. And I strongly believe that there is no card you can buy that is as touching as a handmade one, however wonky it is.
For Mothering Sunday, why not make a card with a printed photo of you and Mum from yesteryear? Everyone loves a bit of reminiscing and it will remind her that you actually used to be fairly sweet looking (good genes you see - bonus tick). Or pick your favourite photo of her like I have above to trigger some good ol' nostalgia.
If you're making breakfast in bed for the Mother of your child - have a crafternoon making the cutest cards that will be kept forEVER.
Pop a thoughtful little gift on the tray
We've brought together a collection of gifts that we think a Mother of any age would love to receive come Mothering Sunday. Is your Mum a fan of entertaining? Then maybe our colourful Indian Enamelware would brighten her dinner parties. Does she like statement jewellery? Then opt for one of our Fair Trade necklace and earring sets made in Tamil Nadu or our new sari bead necklaces made in Delhi.
Have a wonderful Mothering Sunday!
